Her er en oppsummering av vår politiske uttalelse om skolebibliotek vedtatt av styret i juni 2019:

• Skolebibliotekaren må være fagutdannet. Bibliotekaren er ansvarlig for å holde seg faglig oppdatert og til å delta i faglige nettverk.
• Biblioteket må være bemannet og åpent gjennom hele skoledagen.
• Skolebibliotekaren må ha en tydelig plassering i ledelsen ved skolen, for å sikre samarbeid mellom skolebibliotekar, pedagogisk personale, IKT og ledelse.
• Skolebibliotekaren skal involveres og delta aktivt i alle prosesser hvor biblioteket er berørt eller hvor det er naturlig at bibliotekaren kan bidra.
• Skolebibliotekarens hovedfokus er å legge til rette for elevenes læring.
• Skolebiblioteket må være del av et planverk på kommune- og/eller fylkesnivå. Nasjonale krav er en forutsetning for et likeverdig og godt tilbud til alle i hele landet.
• Skolebibliotekaren har det daglige ansvaret for drift og utvikling av skolebiblioteket. Som den faglige lederen for skolens bibliotek bør skolebibliotekaren ha økonomi- og personalansvar i biblioteket.
• Skolebibliotekaren har ansvaret for mediesamlingen og samlingsutviklingen i biblioteket. Samlingen skal holde høy kvalitet, være allsidig og aktuell. Innholdet og tilbudet i skolebiblioteket skal understøtte skolens virksomhet og være tilpasset elevmassens behov.
• Enhver skolebibliotekar har ytringsfrihet innad og utad i saker som angår bibliotekets faglige virksomhet.
• Skolebibliotekaren skal samarbeide aktivt med lærerne om bruk av biblioteket både i arbeidet med å styrke elevenes grunnleggende ferdigheter og i kjerneelementene: folkehelse og livsmestring, demokrati og medborgerskap og bærekraftig utvikling.
