Vi organiserer bibliotekarer i kommunal, statlig og privat sektor, samt bibliotek- og arkivstudenter. Forbundet har rundt 1800 medlemmer (per august 2025).

Forbundet skal arbeide for å sikre bibliotekarer og bibliotekansatte gode arbeidsforhold. I dette arbeidet må forbundet fremme bibliotekar som profesjon i arbeidsmarkedet så vel som å ivareta det enkelte medlems rettigheter i konkrete saker.

Forbundet skal være tydelig i den bibliotekpolitiske debatten og sette bibliotekfaglige saker på dagsordenen i tråd med organisasjonens mål og medlemmenes interesser.

Forbundsleder er Ola Eiksund.

Bibliotekarforbundet ble stiftet i 1993 og har vært tilsluttet hovedorganisasjonen Unio siden 1. januar 2018.

Organisasjon

Bibliotekarforbundets øverste organ er landsmøtet, som avholdes hvert tredje år. Mellom landsmøtene er det forbundsstyret som leder forbundets arbeid. Forbundslederen og sekretariatet tar seg av det daglige arbeidet, mens distriktslagene og de tillitsvalgte utgjør grunnmuren i organisasjonen.
